Mark Mason, BSc (Hons) MRICS CIAT is a Qualified Chartered Building Surveyor with over 15 years’ experience. He is a Director of Grumitt Wade Mason and one of the founding members.
A lifelong passion
Mark has always been fascinated by buildings – their design, their materials, their history – and the construction industry. His degree at Brighton University gave him the chance to explore many facets of the industry, before he focused his attention on building surveying.
He started work as a Building Surveyor in 1999 for a private firm in a role which saw him take on contracts covering property maintenance, refurbishment and new build. His clients now come from all sectors: private, public and commercial, and he works regularly with several local councils.
Mark’s workload has grown along with his expertise and includes projects such as extensions, Disabled Access Audits, feasibility studies and Defect Analysis Reports.
Inspired by architecture
From day one of his career, Mark has worked closely with architects and this has fed his interest in building design. He is now responsible for growing Grumitt Wade Mason’s Architectural Services: liaising with their Architectural Consultant, employing an Architectural Technologist and has recently gained his Chartered Institution Architectural Technologist accreditation.
Building relationships
For Mark, the best part of his job is building a relationship with clients and helping them to make their vision a reality. That and the feeling of achievement he gets when they come back with another project because they were so happy with the work.
When he can tear himself away from his beloved buildings, Mark can sometimes be found playing squash and badminton and, more often, the guitar. His (not so secret) passion is radio controlled aircraft – he belongs to a club and is qualified to give training to new members.
